Dear Reader,
The Kinsol Trestle is located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley. It is one of eight trestles along the Cowichan Valley Trail route and is one of the tallest free-standing timber rail trestle structures in the world. It is 187 metres in length and stands 44 metres above the Koksilah River.
This trail is open to everyone and totally appropriate for all skill levels. It is a perfect outing for families, friends and completely pet friendly.
There are two ways to get to the Koksilah River below the trestle. There is a trail that runs along the side and underneath. It is an easy little hike. You can also just shortcut down the hill straight towards the bottom like my children insisted on doing!
This hike is a perfect way to experience the beauty and history that Cowichan Valley has to offer.
The easiest access to the Kinsol Trestle is through Shawnigan Lake. Follow Renfrew Road past the end of the Lake to Gleneagles Road and turn right. There is a public parking area about 550 metres down the road on the right hand side. This access has a better road leading to the parking lot. There is a bit of a walk from this lot but it is not far and it is flat.
